Em-power Tools

Em-power Tools

The human being is a mystery. It needs to be unravelled. If you spend your whole life unravelling it, don’t say you wasted your time. Study that mystery because that is what being human means. ~ Dostoyevsky

The Art of Being Authentic philosophy is designed to empower the ‘matrix’. It depends greatly on your intentions and having a growth mindset.

By consciously, insightfully designing your life narrative, you can more creatively and authentically think, feel and act. This expands your potential to be the best you can be. In this process, you bring the parts of the matrix foundation together in a balanced, cohesively connected whole.

Although the tools and strategies you choose, vary as uniquely as you are unique, I list the ones that are central to The Art Matrix philosophy of mind and life.

Writing, for instance is one of the tools that I have found to be particularly empowering in developing a strong, confident voice. I use this tool extensively to assist my work through self-discovery and personal growth.

The dignity of the ice-berg

The dignity of movement of an ice-berg is due to only one-eight of it being above water. If a writer of prose knows enough of what he is writing about he may omit things that he knows and the reader, if the writer is writing truly enough, will have a feeling of those things as strongly as though the writer had stated them. ~ Hemingway

You are the writer and the reader of your identity narrative and connections with the world. You can creatively choose to add and omit through the self-reflective process.

The most important difference between your story and another one is that you can and should know who you are, holistically, above and below the surface of your ‘ice-berg’ for healthy well-being.

As you live more authentically, with integrity, people around you will be better readers of you life story. Connections will be more meaningful, respectful and genuine.

writing your identity narrative

In the storyline of your personal narrative, you are the main character. You have a lot going on below the surface. The stuff you may not have referenced specifically. It is as though someone else is writing your story.

What I have discovered on my journey through depression and mental health discoveries, there is one story I need to bring above the surface–my own. You need to do the same if you want to shine as the protagonist in this story of your life.

Through different genres of writing I have been able to explore the history, goals and ‘bumpy’ parts of my ‘character’. In doing so, we find the place that feels right.

a place of wild strawberries
is that special place discovered and treasured
the space we return to for solace and relaxation
a personal idyllic spot to retreat to, away from stress or sadness

building self-awareness

As with any story, character development is essential. Pretend you are the protagonist in a story you are writing. Here are some sample questions to prompt your character’s development.

What are your worldviews and greatest fears?
How do you change when you are around others?
What do you really want out of life?
What drives you to do, think and feel certain ways?
What sacrifices are you willing to make?
For what and for whom?
What’s holding you back?
What are your weakness?
What are your desires?
What are your obsessions, phobias, tics, idiosyncrasies, irritants, insecurities or passions?

connecting the parts

Finding the connections in the parts of the matrix is better enabled through understanding the parts and creating a meaning whole. Philosophy, spirituality and psychology can expand wholeness, balance and cohesive connections within and with the world around.

Delving into this matrix of being human on a spiritual journey does require an intentional attitude to build knowledge and understandings. And, by using these creative and critical thinking strategies and skills, we can also, importantly, expand joy within and from from and within the matrix.

with a will-to-meaning

Victor Frankl suggests we put the intuitive, personal consciousness in place, and by doing so, you reflect your purest being ~ the place only you can truly give permission to touch and influence its well-being. This is a truth-seeking, holistic, interconnected framework of authentic living, with integrity.
